From 1993-2002, as the owner and principal of Pacific Design Group-Tacoma, Inc., Jim Castino and his staff of seven design professionals, designed over $75 million in commercial projects throughout the Pacific Northwest region, while capitalizing on his twenty+ years in the construction business to offer his clients a level of field expertise unique in the profession of architecture. After a two year hiatus with another local architectural firm, Jim founded Castino Architecture in 2004, with the goal of providing high-quality, thoughtful and practical design solutions to the commercial and industrial client base he has established over the course of 30+ years in the design-build business. At Castino Architecture we have made the decision to focus on team -build or design-build projects. The ability to collaborate with the contractor beginning early in the design process has many benefits. It allows the team-build team to prioritize and focus on critical path issues that can result in more accurate schedules as well as streamlined drawings. Non essential details can be eliminated and a majority of specifications can be reduced to product cut sheets. Most importantly, this process helps to set common expectations and establish a solid foundation for a successful project. It has been our experience that effective communication and collaboration between client, designer and contractor almost always results in savings; savings in paperwork and documentation, savings in time and coordination in the field and, ultimately, savings in construction costs. At Castino Architecture we strive to pursue a leadership role in a collaborative, inclusive and team centered manner. We effectively apply our creative and technical skills in design, planning, code analysis, construction documents, and construction administration to ensure that the clients' needs and project goals are never forgotten —but indeed become the focus of our attention and our efforts.
